Poseidon's Kite, LLC has patented a unique reciprocating technology, known as the WAVE ENERGY PANEL, that maximizes energy captured from wave orbital velocities. The WAVE ENERGY PANEL uses a membrane that creates a high drag concave surface on the side of the membrane that is being impacted by the wave orbital velocity and a low drag convex surface on the side of the membrane that is being pushed through the water. The design can be moored or free-floating and is scalable to operate in diverse marine environments. The flexible membrane provides both energy efficiency and reduced construction, installation, and maintenance costs, setting it apart in the renewable wave energy sector. Potential commercial applications include energy for offshore aquaculture farms, unmanned vehicle charging, coastal community power solutions, and integration with existing energy infrastructures.
Poseidon's Kite, LLC, has more than 50 years of experience conceiving, designing, developing, and manufacturing innovative machinery, and control systems for manned and unmanned US Navy ships, special purpose vessels, and submarines.
The US Energy Information Administration estimates that the wave energy impacting the US coastline is more than one-third of the total current US power demand. The promise of ocean waves providing a significant source of renewable energy provides the incentive for financial investment to develop and demonstrate concepts.

The ocean is an unforgiving environment. Many Wave Energy Converter prototypes have been developed and deployed. However, when the construction, installation, operating, and maintenance costs are considered, they have not been economically competitive with fossil fuel, solar, or land-based wind power plants. The ingenious groundbreaking design of the Wave Energy Panel enables it to survive the ocean environment and be cost-competitive.
The intellectual property developed for the novel Wave Energy Panel is protected by US Patents 11,795,905 and 11,835,024 issued to Poseidon's Kite, LLC. Computational fluid dynamics is being used to analyze and optimize the performance of the Wave Energy Panel. Performance measurements will be made on scale models in the Davidson Laboratory Wave Tank at Stevens Institute of Technology. The prototype Autonomous Underwater Charging Station will be fabricated using aluminum I-beams and channels for the structural elements, buoyancy blocks for flotation, a motor/generator from an electric vehicle as the power take-off to convert the wave energy into electricity, and a battery to store the energy.
The Wave Energy Panel's combination of efficiency and competitive costs are unique for wave energy converters. As a result, the Wave Energy Panel will become a strong contender in the renewable energy sector.
